This experience paid off as they then finished a very creditable 2nd in the Waikato Secondary Schools Showhunter on 12 June. In the final event, the North Island Secondary Schools Showhunter which was held on 26 June, the team finished 3rd out of 23 teams. In my opinion they were the most consistent team in the series. They were all mounted on “no frills” home bred horses and none of the team are able to afford a lot of coaching other than Pony Club. They are proof that equestrian sports aren?t all about the money! Toni Pansier, in particular, has made a huge improvement. Last year was her first but, with very limited competition experience, this year she was the team “star” gaining two 1stplaces, two 2nd places and a 3rd place out of six rounds. She has done all this riding a borrowed horse, when able. The team all attend Pukekawa Pony Club (a branch of Te Kauwhata District) and Iwould like to thank the Maramarua Hunt Clubs landowners who have been very supportive of these junior riders having allowed them to ride their mounts on the hunt field.Along with other team members, Winston Hopa-Cribb and Nikita Wright, this equestrian team alsocompeted strongly in the Secondary Schools Show jumping and were placed 2nd in the Secondary Schools Eventing.
