  Uniform Expectations
At all times the school uniform must be worn in a manner which brings credit to the student and Te Kauwhata College.

Students should wear their uniform neatly and completely at school (except in PE), travelling to and from school and at school functions, unless mufti has been specified.

The following guidelines are to apply to all students.

·      Students are expected to be well groomed.

·      Uniform should be clean and in a good state of repair.

·      Only white, short-sleeved T-shirts may be worn under the uniform top.

·      No makeup is to be worn and nail polish is not permitted.

·      The only jewellery permitted is one plain stud per ear on the lower lobe and a wrist watch. Other visible body piercings with jewellery are not permitted. A necklace or bone carving of personal significance, a taonga, may be worn under the uniform and not be visible. Approval for this is given following a written request from home.

·      Extreme hairstyles and colours are not permitted.

·      Boys will be clean shaven.

·      Tattoos are not permitted.

·      Hair accessories should blend with uniform colours.

Interpretation of 'extreme', 'natural' and 'blend' is at the discretion of the Senior Leadership Team and designated personnel who have responsibility for uniform

  Year 13 Dress Guidelines

While Year 13 students are not required by the Board of Trustees to wear a school uniform, it does seem appropriate that there be a few guidelines as to what would be deemed suitable for the school's most senior students.

The purpose of these guidelines is to have a Year 13 group of "very tidy" appearance.

The Year 13 is one of preparation, not only in academic terms for tertiary education, but also for the workforce in general.  Skills need to be acquired or polished in the social sense as well as in the academic, sporting and cultural fields, and presentation of oneself is increasingly important in today's world.  It is with this in mind that the guidelines are offered.

The Year 13 students should attempt to maintain a standard of dress similar to that is expected for those working in an office. No garments are allowed that have slogans and emblems that contravene the school's health policy.  The dress code must comply with safety regulations throughout the school.  Sports uniforms are to be reserved for appropriate sporting occasions.

The following items of clothing would not be suitable to the majority of classroom situations:

·          beachwear  eg. T-shirts without a collar, surf shorts

·          singlets

·          football jerseys

·          jandals
